Thrills…As Roemichs Mark Mother’s Day in Style
It was a beauty to behold as Roemichs International
Schools’ Management, Staff and Pupils converged on the School Hall to celebrate
the 2016 Mother’s Day.
Mother’s Day is an annual celebration which dates
back to the early 20th century.
It is a day for honouring mothers, motherhood, maternal
bonds and the influence of mothers in the society.
Usually marked in the month of March or May in most
parts of the world, Mother’s Day originated from the United States of America
when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother, Ann Reeves Jarvis, who died in
1905 at the Saint Andrew’s Methodist Church in Grefton, West Virginia.

Anna’s plan was to honour her late mother who was a
peace activist that cared for wounded soldiers on both sides of the civil war
and created Mother’s Day Work Clubs to address public health issues.

For years, people from all walks of life in the
world have been marking the day by appreciating and honouring mothers who are
generally believed to be “the person who has done more for you than anyone in
the world”.

It was in view of this that the Primary School section
of Roemichs International Schools marked the day with a sensitization programme
tagged “My Mother, My Jewel”.
The Guest Speaker, Pastor Mrs. Ifeoluwa Soetan who
described mothers as priceless and irreplaceable, said since mothers have no
duplicate, there is need to always value and appreciates them.

Pastor Mrs. Soetan stressed that mothers are to
guide, direct and help their wards become better person(s) in life by enforcing
good character in them.
She urged children to always obey their mothers
unconditionally while calling on mothers not to neglect their nurturing,
cherishing, caring, cuddling and loving duties to their wards.

Mr. Massey added that though there were times when
he felt bad whenever his mother chastises him, but those chastisements, he
stressed, were the foundation of who he is today.
In her welcome address, the Head of Early Childhood
and Primary School, Mrs. Stella Adefunke Kolade who likened mothers to the
heart-beat, back bone and guiding angels of all, said Mother’s Day celebration
is imperative given the immense contribution of mothers to human existence.
The event featured a song rendition by the EarlyYears
and Year One pupils, a drama presentation on ‘The Reward of Disobedience’ by Year
Two pupils,a playlet on the ‘Joy of Motherhood’ by Year Five
pupils as well as a Choreographic display.
Highpoints of the occasion was the observation of a
minute silence for all departed mothers while participants also danced to the
music of ‘Sweet Mother’ by Prince Nico Mbarga.
